If this is your first summer in Madrid, here's one thing you should know: the heat is no joke. Once temperatures climb above 35°C (95°F), all you want is to grab a cold beer on a nice terrace... but sometimes even that isn't enough when you're literally leaving a sweat mark on your chair.

That's when it's time to find some water, shade, or anywhere you can cool down.

The good news? You don't have to leave the city (or spend a fortune on a trip to Ibiza) to enjoy summer. From public pools to urban beach vibes and nature getaways, here are some of the best ways to cool off in Madrid with your friends.

1. Take a Dip in Madrid's Public Swimming Pools

Madrid's public swimming pools are one of the best options if you're looking for an affordable way to escape the heat.

Some of the most popular ones include:

  • Casa de Campo
  • Lago
  • Aluche
  • Vicente del Bosque
  • Concepción

Entry usually costs between €2 and €5, depending on the day and your age.

Tip: The only downside is that they're extremely popular. During weekends and heatwaves, tickets often sell out quickly, so it's worth booking in advance.

Many of these pools also have large green areas where you can relax, have a picnic, or spend the entire day soaking up the summer atmosphere.

2. Enjoy a Hotel Pool Day Pass

Want to feel like you're on holiday without leaving Madrid?

Many hotels offer day passes, allowing you to enjoy their swimming pools without booking a room.

Some great options include:

  • Hotel Emperador
  • Hard Rock Hotel Madrid
  • Hotel Santo Domingo
  • Novotel Madrid Center
  • Akeah Hotel Gran Vía

Prices generally range from €55 to €100, depending on the hotel, the season, and what's included.

While it's a more premium experience, it's perfect for celebrating a special occasion or simply treating yourself to a relaxing day in the heart of Madrid.

3. Spend the Day at Parque Warner Beach

If you're looking for thrills as well as water, Parque Warner Beach is always a great choice.

You'll find:

  • Giant water slides
  • Wave pools
  • Lazy river
  • Kids' areas
  • Restaurants and chill-out spaces

It's one of the best water parks near Madrid and the perfect place to spend a fun-filled day with friends.

4. Enjoy a Summer Afternoon at Piwi Beach Madrid

If you're looking for a summery atmosphere without leaving the city, Piwi Beach Madrid is one of this summer's newest hotspots.

Located at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) swimming pool, this space has recently opened to the public, offering the perfect setting to spend a full day outdoors.

Besides the pool, you'll find food trucks, drinks, relaxation areas, and a lively atmosphere that's ideal for spending the day with friends.

The best part? The price. Admission starts at €4.90 for UAM students and €5.90 for the general public, making it one of the most affordable places to cool off in Madrid this summer.

If you're after something different that combines swimming, good food, and a young, laid-back vibe, Piwi Beach definitely deserves a spot on your summer bucket list.

5. Escape to Pantano de San Juan

Did you know Madrid has its own beach? Well... sort of.

Pantano de San Juan, located just over an hour from the city centre, is one of the region's most popular summer destinations.

Here you can:

  • Go swimming
  • Rent a kayak
  • Try paddle boarding
  • Have a picnic
  • Spend the day surrounded by nature

If you have a car or you're heading out with a group of friends, it's the perfect escape from the city's fast pace.

6. Discover Las Presillas

If you prefer a completely natural setting, Las Presillas, in Rascafría, is one of the most beautiful spots in the Community of Madrid.

These natural swimming pools, fed by the Lozoya River and surrounded by the stunning Guadarrama Mountains, offer refreshingly cold water even during the hottest days of summer.

It's the perfect place to spend the day in nature, enjoy a picnic, and take in one of the most beautiful landscapes near Madrid.

Just keep in mind that it gets very busy during July and August, so arriving early is definitely recommended.

What's Your Go-To Summer Plan?

You don't have to head to the coast to enjoy summer. Madrid has plenty of ways to beat the heat, whether that's spending the afternoon by the pool, escaping into nature, or enjoying a beach club vibe with friends.

If you've just moved to Madrid to study, work, or live here for a while, these refreshing summer plans are the perfect excuse to explore the city while making the most of the sunny season.

Which one will you try first?
